Military Personnel

SB 35 -Be warned that this bill has set you up for failure. There are still a lot of hoops to jump thorough, if you do not follow all the steps you will be in violation of the law. You must have an official document showing pistol training. These are the instructions provided by the OSBI:

  • Complete the exemption form and attach indicated documentation (listed on form) along with your Self-Defense Act License Application
  1. Fill out an SDA application
  2. Fill out and attach an SDA exemption form with proper attached documentation:
  3. Proper Documentation:
    1. A person on active military duty, National Guard duty or regular military reserve duty who is a legal resident of this state and who is trained and qualified in the use of handguns;
      1. Copy of current, valid military identification card and copy of training record or certificate indicating successful completion of training in the use of handguns
    2. A person honorably discharged from active military duty, National Guard duty or military reserves within twenty (20) years preceding the date of the application for a handgun license pursuant to the provisions of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act, who is a legal resident of this state, and who has been trained and qualified in the use of handguns;
      1. Copy of DD214 showing honorable discharge in the last 20 years and a copy of training record or certificate indicating successful completion of training in the use of handguns

Warning: You are still responsible for following ALL state gun law, not knowing the law does NOT exempt you from following it. As in all cases we highly suggest taking the SDA course to learn Oklahoma SDA Carry Law.
